Le commice d'agricole is a packed week-end of activities that takes place every four years in Azay le Rideau. ( it probably takes that long to plan) About a dozen local villages participate, the weekend starting with a gourmet market on Friday evening. The aroma of all kinds of food and delicacies fill the air as you walk around the stalls packed with local craftwork , produce and wines.

The major event is the gala procession stretching for two miles or more. Azay le Rideau is absolutely packed with vistors from miles around. Dancers, clowns, cyclists, bands and walkers in uniform and fancy dress all take part. Each village competes with each other to produce the most attractive or innovative float. Wow--There was even one with fully laden apple tree, another with a windmill, boats, gigantic fish and a futuristic one with revolving space crafts.

Majorettes, samba bands and even our own Shredded Feet dancers from Leyland and Croston, braved the three hour walk around Azay in sweltering heat. Householders kept them well supplied with liquid refreshment all the way round but unfortunately instead of water or pop, it was usually wine-- You can imagine the state they were in when they finished.
